Urbanized

Recently some of SJB’s enthusiastic ‘urbanists’, together with 900 other Melburnians, attended the Australian screening of ‘Urbanized’ at the Capitol Theatre in Melbourne, a feature film focused on the design and development of cities.

The film features some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers, activists and thinkers, including Sir Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas, Oscar Niemeyer, Jan Gehl, Enrique Peñalosa, Yung Ho Chang, Eduardo Paes, Rahul Mehrotra, Ellen Dunham-Jones, to name a few, including a number of extraordinary individuals who have changed their cities.

The film asks questions such as: who is allowed to shape our cities, and how do they do it? And how does the design of our cities affect our lives?  The film seeks to engage discussion, ideas and debate via these questions, and by exploring a diverse range of urban design projects.  The film includes dozens of projects from cities around the world, which range from huge infrastructural initiatives through to temporary urban interventions, and frames a global discussion on the future of our cities.

This film has accumulated enthusiastic reviews from around the world (and from this blogger), providing viewers – whether they be novices or seasoned veterans within the profession – with a deep knowledge of the vast amount of issues facing modern urban planning, and a range of innovative ideas and solutions to accommodate inevitable growth.

If you have the opportunity, watch this film…
